The Last of Us Season 3 Is Official: HBO Renews Hit Series Early
HBO isn’t wasting any time — The Last of Us has officially been renewed for Season 3, and Season 2 hasn’t even premiered yet! This early renewal shows just how confident the network is in the hit series, which has gone from groundbreaking video game to award-winning television phenomenon.
Season 1 faithfully adapted the entirety of the original game. Now, as the show prepares to dive into The Last of Us Part II, fans already know the second game’s sprawling story will unfold across multiple seasons — and HBO is clearly all-in.
Series co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann shared their excitement in a joint statement:
“The story of Part II, like the first game, is more than a season’s worth of television… HBO has graciously agreed to renew the show for a third season. We are thrilled to be able to continue the story of Ellie and Abby.”
No release date for Season 3 just yet, but with the writers’ room likely already firing up, we may not have to endure another long wait like the two-year gap between Seasons 1 and 2 — delayed by the 2023 strikes.
